CVC Reading App

A Free Phonics App

Learning to read is an exciting milestone for young children—but it can also feel challenging, both for kids and for parents supporting them at home. That’s why I’m really happy to introduce a new free phonics practice app from Play English School, designed especially for early readers.

What is the CVC Words App?

The Learn to Read – CVC Words app focuses on one of the most important early reading skills: blending CVC words (consonant–vowel–consonant words such as cat, dog, sun).

Using pure phonics sounds, children can:

  • tap each letter to hear its sound
  • listen to the sounds blended together into a word
  • see a clear image that matches the word

This simple structure helps children connect sounds, letters, and meaning—without overwhelm.

Designed for Young Children

The app has been carefully designed with young learners in mind:

  • large, clear letters
  • calm colours and gentle animations
  • no ads, pop-ups, or distractions
  • simple buttons that are easy for small hands

Children can practise independently, while parents can feel confident that the content is safe and educational.

Progress That Encourages Confidence

As children work through each vowel set, they earn stars to show their progress. This gives a sense of achievement without pressure or competition. There’s also a “mixed practice” option that chooses words from all vowel groups, helping children build confidence and flexibility as readers.

Progress is saved automatically, so children can return to the app and continue where they left off.

Perfect for Home and Classroom Use

This app works beautifully:

  • on iPads and tablets
  • on phones
  • at home or in the classroom

Parents can even add it to the Home Screen so it behaves like a real app—no login required.

The Learn to Read – CVC Words app is completely free to use and available directly from our website.
